Mirza Fakhrul calls for unity

Calling on all political parties to unite, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “Let us overthrow this government and establish a people’s government through a brutal movement.”

He said that ordinary people, political activists and political leaders do not have any security. So let’s unite to protect our country, to protect the people, to fulfill the aspiration of freedom. By creating national unity, we overthrew this government through another war and established the government of the people.

He said this at a discussion meeting organized by the Nationalist Freedom Fighters Party at the National Press Club auditorium on Monday.

Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘In 1975, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established a one-party Bakshal by banning all political parties, banning newspapers and restricting people’s ability to speak. There all our hopes and aspirations have been dashed. From there, Ziaur Rahman raised the hopes and aspirations of building a free society with the freedom of press on multi-party democracy.

He said the government of Moinuddin and Fakhruddin had brought the Awami League to power in 2008 under the name of illegal caretaker through national and international conspiracies. Their goal was to depoliticise Bangladesh and create a non-democratic state. So they did. Since 2008, they have conspired with them to make Bangladesh undemocratic.

Mirza Fakhrul said that they are trying to re-establish Bakshal in the name of a disguised democracy by taking away the rights of all the people of Bangladesh. Now there is no accountability in the country. And because there is no accountability, they are doing enough corruption, stealing, robbing, taking away human rights. Wealth is being smuggled abroad and people are being oppressed. Thus there has been inflation, commodity prices have risen. Ordinary people’s breath has risen.

He said that mega corruption is taking place in the name of mega projects. There is no development of common people. Today those who stand behind TCB trucks are not getting any development to buy goods at fair prices. The price of farmers’ produce has not increased. He did not improve. The wages of the workers did not increase. He did not improve. Today, small business hawkers have not improved. Today there has been development of those who are looting by sharing power with Awami League. Bangladesh has now become a paradise of looting. He looted whenever he got a chance. We need to change this situation.

Criticizing Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader’s statement that BNP is giving oath to foreigners, BNP secretary general said, BNP did not come to power by giving oath to foreigners. The BNP came to power with the people through fair and free elections. Since then, this party has come to power every time under the leadership of Khaleda Zia with the love of the people.

“We are in a very precarious situation today,” he said. If we want to protect our state, to protect the sovereignty of our independence, we have to get out of this knee-jerk foreign policy and if we have to establish an independent foreign policy and democracy, we have no choice but to oust this government. Today we are working towards that goal.

He said BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been detained for a long time completely unjustly. Our leader Tareq Rahman has been deported on false charges. False cases have been filed against 35 lakh leaders and activists. More than 600 of our leaders and workers have gone missing.

BNP Vice Chairman Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed was present at the presidency-BNP standing committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Nazrul Islam Khan, Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, Shawkat Mahmud, Chairperson’s Adviser Abdul Salam, Convener of the People’s Rights Council. Reza Kibria, BNP joint secretary general Moazzem Hossain Alal and others.
