In order to publish or operate an online news portal, one must register with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the light of the policy.

An information statement on Wednesday (January 5th) said that according to the National Online Media Policy 2017 (Revised 2020) prepared by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, there is an obligation to register for the publication of online news portals. But it is noticed that many people are operating online news portals by taking domain from Bangladesh Telecommunications Limited (BTCL) without getting registration from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

In most cases, it is spreading false, untrue and baseless information and news, which is spreading confusion in the minds of the people. As a result, the image of Bangladesh is being tarnished abroad. In order to publish or operate an online news portal, one must register with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the light of the policy.
Recently, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a circular in this regard.
