

A week-long forest,herbal and fruit tree fair has been inaugurated in Bandarban. Minister for Chittagong Hill Tract Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing (MP) On Friday (July 1) announced the official inauguration of the fair by flying colorful balloons at the Bandarban District Administration Office premises.
Md.Lutfur Rahman,Deputy Director,Local Government Department presided over the function.
Bandarban Superintendent of Police Zarin Akhtar,BPM,Hill District Council Member Kya Sa Pru,Fair Organizing Committee Member Secretary and Divisional Forest Officer Haque Mahbub Morshed,Pulpwood Plantation Divisional Divisional Officer Mahmudul Hasan,Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department Md.Rafiqul Islam was present as the special guest.
Speaking as the chief guest at the discussion meeting organized on the occasion of the fair,Minister for Chittagong Hill Tract Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing (MP) Said tree planting is a very important issue for a healthy natural environment.
Trees protect the flow of oxygen to save human life.There is no substitute for planting trees to protect the environment.
The tree is the best friend of mankind.
Trees not only give us oxygen but also protect us from various natural disasters including cyclones and hurricanes.
At that time,Minister Bir Bahadur called upon all to plant more trees.On the occasion of the inauguration of the tree fair, the chief guest distributed free saplings and visited the stalls participating in the fair.
Earlier,a colorful rally was organized by the district administration,forest department and agriculture extension department from the district administration premises on the occasion of the inauguration of the tree fair.
The rally ended at the district administration premises again after going around the main roads of the city.During this time school and college students participated in the rally with various awareness festoons.
With the slogan ‘Nature-Environment, Sustainable Bangladesh for the next generation’ in mind, 45 stalls of different varieties of fruits, forest and herbs of government and non-government organizations are participating in the fair for 7 days.
The fair stalls will be open every day from 10 am to 9 pm.The closing ceremony of the fair will be held on July 7.
